Poker With Crypto From Brazil
Brazil licensed betting from 2025 without online poker, then banned fixed-odds betting and online games by provisional measure on 25 September 2026.
The short answer
As far as these sources show, Brazil has never licensed online poker. The 2023 betting law licensed fixed-odds betting and online games from 1 January 2025, and the regulator left skill games such as poker out of it. On 25 September 2026 a provisional measure, MP 1.394/2026, banned fixed-odds betting and online games, and the betting sites were to go offline from 6 October. The Supreme Court held a public hearing on the ban on 3 November 2026.

Licensed betting, without poker
Law 14.790, signed on 29 December 2023, gave Brazil a licensed market for fixed-odds betting and online games. The Ministry of Finance set up its Secretariat of Prizes and Bets in January 2024, and licensed operation began on 1 January 2025, limited to authorised companies on the .bet.br domain. A bettor's net winnings were taxed at 15%, with monthly winnings of up to R$2,640 exempt.
Poker was not part of it. When the regulator defined the online games it would license, it listed skill games such as poker, and games played between bettors, among those the category does not cover. So no licence for an online poker room was on offer under these rules.
The ban of September 2026
On 25 September 2026 President Lula signed a provisional measure, MP 1.394/2026, that ends the operation, offering, intermediation and advertising of fixed-odds betting in Brazil, sports betting and online games included. New deposits were banned the same day, players had until 23:59 on 5 October to withdraw their money, and the betting sites and apps were to go offline from 6 October. Banks were to return remaining balances from 9 October, with Caixa Econômica Federal handling what the banks could not return.
Operators that do not comply face warnings, fines of up to R$2 billion and the suspension of their business. A separate bill would make operating fixed-odds betting a crime with four to six years in prison, but it takes effect only once Congress approves it. On 3 November 2026 the Supreme Court held a public hearing on online betting, at which the federal government defended the ban.
What this means for a reader in Brazil
Brazil is not on WePlay's list of refused countries, and Basepoker's terms name no countries; both leave the law of your own country to you. WePlay's licence is from Anjouan and Basepoker's from Costa Rica, and the Brazilian rules offered no licence for poker. We could not confirm how Brazil taxes winnings from a poker room abroad, so ask a Brazilian accountant before you file.
The law is moving fast, and the Supreme Court is looking at the ban, so read the latest news before you rely on anything here. We do not describe VPNs or ways around payment blocks.
Time zones
Brasília is UTC-3 all year. A 20:30 start on WePlay's GMT+2 schedule, 18:30 UTC, is 15:30 in Brasília. The Tonight page shows every start in UTC.
