Poker With Crypto From Italy

In Italy public gaming runs under ADM licences, and a 1989 law punishes taking part in unlicensed games and advertising games accepted abroad.

The short answer

In Italy gambling is run under licences from the customs and monopolies agency, ADM, which also acts against illegal gambling. The law of 13 December 1989 punishes taking part in games run without that licence, with arrest of up to three months or a fine, and punishes advertising in Italy games that are accepted abroad. Italy is not on WePlay's list of refused countries, and Basepoker's terms name no countries, but neither room names an Italian licence.

Licensed games, and a law that names the player

Public gaming in Italy is run under licences, and the Agenzia delle Dogane e dei Monopoli regulates it: it checks that its licensees meet their obligations and acts against gambling run illegally.

The law of 13 December 1989, no. 401, sets the penalties. Article 4 punishes organising and collecting games at a distance without the licence with three to six years in prison and a fine of 20,000 to 50,000 euros, and paragraph 3 punishes whoever takes part in games run that way with arrest of up to three months or a fine. Paragraph 2 punishes whoever advertises in Italy, in any way, games, bets and lotteries accepted abroad, with arrest of up to three months and a fine.

What this means for a reader in Italy

Italy is not on WePlay's list of refused countries, and Basepoker's terms name no countries. Both leave the law of your own country to you. Neither room names an Italian licence: WePlay's is from Anjouan and Basepoker's from Costa Rica. Italian law punishes taking part in games run without the licence and advertising games accepted abroad, so this page links to neither room, and we do not describe VPNs or other ways around the law.

We could not confirm how Italy taxes winnings from a room without an ADM licence, so ask an Italian accountant. The ADM-licensed sites are the legal way to play online in Italy, and our strategy pages, the odds chart and the calculators are free to read anywhere.
