Bounty calculator
Facing an all-in in a knockout tournament? Enter the pot, the call and the bounty you would collect. See the chance to win the call needs, with the bounty and without it.
The bounty takes 20.1 percentage points off what the call needs. It counts only when you have more chips than the player who is all-in.
How the figure is worked out
Without the bounty, a call needs to win the share of the final pot that you put in: the call divided by the pot plus the call. That is the same sum as on the pot odds calculator.
The bounty is won together with the pot, so it is added to what a winning call collects. To add it, it has to be in chips. The rule of thumb many players use is that a starting stack is worth what one buy-in put into the prize pool. In the Sunday Showdown on WePlay that is 20,000 chips for $25, so each dollar is worth 800 chips and a $12.50 knockout is worth about 10,000 chips.
Those are the figures the calculator opens with. A player goes all-in for 6,000 chips with 1,000 in blinds and antes already in the middle, so the pot is 7,000 and the call is 6,000. Without the bounty the call needs to win 6,000 of 13,000, which is 46.2%. With the 10,000 chips of the bounty added it needs 6,000 of 23,000, which is 26.1%.
The bounty is only yours when the call can knock the player out, which means you have more chips than they do. In a progressive knockout, half of each bounty goes onto your own head; that half is left out here, because you only collect it if you win the whole tournament.
Questions
How much is a bounty worth in chips?
A rule of thumb many players use: a starting stack is worth what one buy-in put into the prize pool. In the Sunday Showdown on WePlay that is 20,000 chips for $25, so a $12.50 knockout is worth about 10,000 chips.
Do I get the bounty if I have fewer chips?
No. A call only knocks a player out when you have more chips than they do. When they have more, winning the hand doubles you up but nobody is out, so the call needs what the pot alone asks for.
What about the half that goes onto my own head?
In a progressive knockout, half of each bounty you win goes onto your own bounty. The calculator leaves it out, because you only collect that half if you win the whole tournament.
